• Time to spare? Ready for a new challenge? Advice volunteers needed

        • 9 October 2020

Citizens Advice 1066 has seen client numbers increase during the last three years to nearly 10,000 last year. The increase in demand for our services means we have an urgent need for more front line volunteers for our general advice service team which is currently delivering advice by phone and email.

With the COVID-19 pandemic demand for our advice has soared. This is because more people in the Hastings area are seeking assistance on meeting basic needs such as food and heating and in dealing with financial difficulties such as applying for benefits, keeping up with rent payments or dealing with employment issues and debts.

We invest a great deal of time in the training so you need to be able to meet a volunteer commitment to work at least one day per week.

You will spend the first weeks working through training modules online, followed by observing advisers before you start to offer advice under supervision.

Volunteers are currently offering this service from their homes. We can provide IT and phone equipment and can cover your costs. You will need to be able to work confidentially with no one able to overhear your telephone conversations.

Some initial training is best undertaken in the office. However, for people who would find this difficult we are able to support you wholly working at home.

Our training is thorough and many of our volunteers have gone on to get paid employment as a result.

Equally, our retired volunteers say it gives them pleasure to continue to use their experience to serve the community and work in a friendly team.

If volunteering at Citizens Advice 1066 sounds like a good match for your skills and experience, please get in touch for further information and an application pack.

During the next round of recruitment we hope to offer places to six new advice volunteers.

By joining us, you will make a real difference to people's lives, as some 10,000 people already found out last year.
